Treatment of Municipal Waste
Mechanical treatment
Mechanical treatment consists of shredding and screening for separation of parts high in calorific value. As with waste splitting, KOMPTECH one-shaft shredders and drum screens (with optional disc screen) are used. Undersized particles (organic) and screen overflow are subject to ferrous metal separation.
While organic waste is being biologically treated, the screen overflow is used thermically or for RDF.
Biological treatment
Mixing units (MASHMASTER) can optionally be used to add sewage sludge. Biological treatment begins with an enclosed intense rotting process for 2- 4 weeks in rotting tunnels. Automatic conveyor technology, wheel loaders, or both are used for filling and emptying. Extracted air is cleaned in line with regulations.
Mobile KOMPTECH turning units are used for the 10 -12 week maturation process (open or closed rotting stack).
Compliance to landfill criteria is guaranteed through the use of star screen technology to remove residual components high in calorific value.
