Jan Hes reduces fuel costs Green efficiency in perfection
The Jan Hes company in Egmond-Bakkum, NL has committed itself entirely to sustainability and resource conservation. For this contract service provider “thinking green” is routine when it comes to recycling wood, reclaiming energy from biomass, and using machines and labour capacity efficiently. The same goes for investments in new recycling equipment, and with Komptech Green Efficiency machines the company has significantly lowered its energy costs.
A close-up look in Middenmeer reveals a Green Efficiency duo. Consisting of Crambo direct shredder and Multistar L3 star screen, it works all week here at this waste and biomass processing site in northern Holland. A good 1200 tonnes of branches, trunks and rootstocks have accumulated here, and all are headed for the Crambo 5200 direct that has been with the company since 2015. From the shredder’s discharge conveyor the material goes directly to the Multistar L3 that the company acquired last year. “We can use both machines practically anywhere,” says Peter Hes, owner of the family company. “Everything goes in a line. It’s practical and efficient.”
Up to 50% more efficient
Efficiency is important to Jan Hes. It’s why the company chose the Crambo 5200 direct in the first place. With its direct drive, the machine is much thriftier than the hydraulic drive machines they had been renting up until then. “We save almost half the fuel,” says Peter Hes. “We get similar savings with the new star screen as well. Our previous L3 had reached the point where we had to replace it. With the new machine fuel consumption is almost 25% lower, with higher throughput.” Peter Hes cares a great deal about fuel efficiency. “We see the cost advantage every operating hour, and naturally it also has direct benefits for the environment.”
Optimum separation
For the new L3 Hes chose a longer coarse screen deck to get better fraction separation. “The system works well, as can be seen from its exact separation of the material into fines for compost, a medium fraction for biomass fuel and a coarse fraction, which goes back to the Crambo. The coarse material is clean, so it can be used as fuel without further processing. But at Middenmeer it still goes back around through the Crambo,” explains Peter Hes. He names the precise adjustment, practical maintenance access and reliability as further advantages. “We can trust our machines, not least thanks to the great support from Pon Equipment, the Komptech sales partner for the Netherlands.”
