International Women's Day: Spotlight on our female colleagues

International Women’s Day on 8 March draws public attention to many important societal issues.

These include equal rights and sustainability, two topics that are constantly in focus for good reasons. Climate change is having serious effects on our environment, and thus on economic and social development. Equal rights have extremely high priority at Komptech all the time, not just on International Women’s Day.

On 19 March 1911 around a million women from Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland organized the first International Women’s Day. In 1975 the day was officially set as 8 March, and since then it has been an important day for promoting equal rights issues. In some countries it is even an official holiday.

Interviews with our colleagues

Some colleagues at our company gave us brief interviews for International Women’s Day. We’re very proud to be able to call them “colleagues” and we appreciate all the contributions they and our other colleagues make every day, for a more sustainable environment and for equality.

Maja Marija Gržin, Software Engineer

What I especially like about my job at Komptech:

We work and act like a big family. We’re always ready to help each other, whether at work or in private life. The company does a lot for the environment and sustainability, and that’s naturally a big plus. This is very important to me in my personal life as well, since we only have one planet. My priority is to keep it clean, so that nature and humanity can continue to live in harmony.

To me, equal rights at work mean…

Not just equality, but interaction as equals with male and female colleagues and supervisors. Right on my first day here I was told that we use the informal form of address. Everyone is on a first-name basis. Politely and respectfully, of course. That caught my attention and let me know that this company is one I’m glad to be a part of.

What events and times in your life have influenced you thus far?

All the good and bad times have made my life what it is now. The most important event was the move from Slovenia to Austria. That opened the door to a new world, a world of success and independence.

Internationality is important to me because …

I come from a different country, Slovenia. Interestingly, I come from the area around Ljutomer where Farmtech is located. I’ve known the company since I was a little girl, as my father worked there until he retired (40 years). What I know about the company is that there it doesn’t matter where you’re from, your gender or your nationality. The main thing is to be efficient, cooperative and committed. I go around the world with pride when I see our green leaf logo, and I’m excited to be part of this “family” and its story. In a single sentence I could say, Internationality is Komptech’s middle name.

Heike Oberegger-Ganster, Department Manager Administration

What I especially like about my job at Komptech:

Every day is different, and brings new challenges. I enjoy the lively exchanges with my colleagues. There are new and interesting inquiries and tasks every day, and dealing with and solving them together is very enjoyable and satisfying.

To me, equal rights at work means…

That I have the permission and opportunity to develop and grow. Wishes and ideas should be recognized and encouraged accordingly, regardless of gender, age or origin.

What events and times in your life have influenced you thus far?

For almost three years I worked intensively on change processes at the Ljutomer location. Despite many obstacles, together we were able to introduce many new structures and processes, and establish them as standard procedure. I was very impressed by the willingness and commitment of so many of my Slovenian colleagues to go in a new direction, which brought with it many changes.

Internationality is important to me because

I personally see the future in internationalization, and not just because I work in an international company.

Jennifer Hufnagl, Production

What I especially like about my job at Komptech:

The complex and varied work. The bare machine arrives at my workplace in Production, and leaves ready to go to work for customers somewhere in the world. Being involved in so many work steps allows me to learn a lot and gain experience. My great colleagues also make my job at Komptech lots of fun.

To me, equal rights at work means…

That everyone, male or female, has the same opportunities and possibilities. The same pay for the same work, regardless of who it is doing that work. Everyone should have the same career opportunities and access to further training.

What events and times in your life have influenced you thus far?

Being as young as I am, I’m still a blank slate, and am glad of every experience and responsibility I can gain for my further career.

Internationality is important to me because…

Internationality is very important, since it enables us to learn from other cultures, expand our own horizons, meet global challenges together, and create a more inclusive society.

Behdokht Mostofizadeh, Department Manager Technical Documentation

What I especially like about my job at Komptech:

I’m responsible for the Technical Documentation department. Last year I celebrated my 10-year anniversary at Komptech. That really says more than a thousand words. Not a single day has been boring; there are new challenges all the time. Machine documentation has major importance in our company, since no machine can leave the factory without it.

The company always tries to look after the well-being of its staff, and shows it in many ways, by organizing sports activities for example, and by taking into account individual employee wishes. They are always improving the conditions for an even better working climate.

To me, equal rights at work means…

We’re all people. We all have the right to be treated equally, regardless of our gender, our position at work – manager or worker – or our nationality. Those differences should not divide us. On the contrary, we should put equality in first place and show each other appreciation. Everyone should have the chance to develop. There is a Persian poem that says: “People are connected to each other like limbs of one body, from creation, and are of one and the same essence. If fate causes one limb to suffer, the others also have no peace. And if you treat their cares carelessly, you cannot call yourself a person.”

What events and times in your life have influenced you thus far?

To be honest, there are many different events that have influenced my life and will continue to do so. But without sounding kitschy, Komptech is one of the most important things in my life and something I am very thankful for.

Internationality is important to me because…

2500 the philosopher Heraclitus said, “Change is the only constant in life.” We must learn to deal with these changes, and must also let them inspire us. In my view internationality is a driver for many of these changes. It gives us insights into new ways of looking at things, and new strategies. In my opinion the interchange of different cultures, ways of thinking and worldviews is the key to innovation and progress. Knowledge of every kind is an advantage, since we can never know everything and should never stop learning and changing.

Tjaša Makoter Frumen, Department Manager HR Farmtech

What I especially like about my job:

I especially like the development possibilities, the open way we treat each other, and the appreciative company culture that makes it possible to grow daily, learn new processes, and help develop our success.

To me, equal rights at work means…

That it’s not whether I’m a man or a woman that matters, but my daily contribution and what I as a person bring to the company. Everyone here is treated equally, and every opinion counts.

What events and times in your life have influenced you thus far?

After law school, I travelled a lot in order to gain a variety of experiences. I’ve always enjoyed interacting with people, and I’m convinced that each of us is an incredible personality. Three such miracles are my three kids, who challenge and teach me every day that with a strong will and open heart you can achieve anything, and that you need to enjoy every moment in life.

Internationality is important to me because

Komptech acts internationally, and different cultures work together in the team. Many processes need to be organized from a distance, and that takes trust and cooperation. But the Komptech Group proves that cooperation can be effective and successful, even with three locations.

We all have the right to be treated equally, regardless of our gender, our position at work – manager or worker – or our nationality. Those differences should not divide us.
