Anaerobic digestion as next step
Matthew began looking into anaerobic digestion (A.D.), the process of organic waste being broken down by bacteria and ultimately converted into renewable, usable products like natural gas. A.D. seemed like the obvious next step for his business, especially as it produced a new sustainable product and an additional revenue stream.
A key component to successful anaerobic digestion is for the feedstock materials to be sized correctly for bacteria to break them down, as well as for contaminants to be absent when organic materials enter the anaerobic process. Although Matthew’s Bobcat had worked well in the compost facility’s early years, he knew that new solutions would be needed to support his evolving business venture.
To generate the proper sized feedstock, Matthew needed technology to shred, screen and separate various organics and contaminants. Again, after some research, he came across Komptech‘s line of waste and recycling equipment. He contacted Foreman Equipment, the Komptech dealer in British Columbia, located less than 30 minutes away in Chilliwack. Matthew connected with owner, Ryan Foreman, and the two began discussing Fraser Valley Renewables’ problems and how Komptech equipment could provide the solution to help get the anaerobic digestion operation off the ground.
